What the client wanted to achieve
An existing world renown client and now on their third project with Contact Flooring to achieve current new company targets we were faced with a huge challenge here compared to the other 2 completed projects as the building was in excess of 100 years old and the substrate was in need of a lot of TLC, as the specification had been agreed costed previously and a bench marked set as to what was being rolled out throughout the group it was quite clear we had to compromise things to include a lot more repairs, intricate edge work and also increase the thickness of the system, after lots of due diligence and a pre-start meeting we had a plan and this is what we did.
The solution
Once Contact Flooring had understood the requirements and the ongoing working targets set out by the client we started by preparing the 3 different areas with 3 different types of grinders, as the surface was so uneven it was a tough decision to either grind the high areas down or repair the low areas, as it turned out a bit of both would make a clear way forward, fast cure primers and specialist fillers were mixed together and a full day was spent ensuring the surface was repaired to a high standard. Once this had been achieved and we were happy with the preparation and repairs we installed the first scratch coat epoxy layer by squeegee, as a thicker layer this helped to eliminate the outstanding undulations and imperfections, following from this a final epoxy coating was installed.
The final day was then spent putting in 2 walkways and 2 zebra crossing, this method was carried out using fast cure products to ensure 2 coatings were installed to ensure longevity was instilled, overall from what started out as a challenge ended up being a credit to the areas involved which will now comply with the companies new standards.
