What the client wanted to achieve

As an existing client where we had installed over 3000m2 of 6mm polyurethane screed the requirements here were clearly understood, as a specialist oil manufacturer and distributor we were asked to finish off the last area in this facility, knowing that oil contamination was an issue as previous and with the understanding that the goods out area was heavily trafficked and challenged we kept to the previous processes and specification, here is what we did.

The solution

Over the years various finishes had been installed to this area so the challenge was to prepare the surface as intense as we could without causing too much damage, as previous we used a Rotamat and a Skanmaskin triple headed grinder, after 2 days of preparation we were happy with the surface, once some minor repairs had been completed we installed an oil tolerant primer to the area and allowed to cure overnight, following the next day inspection we were ready to install the polyurethane screed system at 6mm in thickness, floor chasing took place using diamond tip blades to ensure the material gripped the substrate which is a basic requirement for this type of system but not always followed.

The 6mm screed was installed over 3 days giving a hard wearing, chemical resistant finish with excellent slip resistant properties, a further heavy based aggregate (1-2mm) was blinded into the roller shutter door entrance to give additional grip for the fork lifts trucks in with wet conditions.
